Did You Know?

Plants are not Alternative Medicine
The cannabis plant, which humans have been using for about 5,000 years, essentially works its effects by hijacking the ancient cellular ECS machinery!
When cannabinoids are absorbed into the body, they bind to receptors and are able to exert many and varied beneficial effects.
CB1 Receptors are Target
- Regulation of neurotransmitter release: Affecting mood, cognition, and behavior.
- Appetite and metabolism: Can stimulate appetite, and have roles in regulating energy balance and metabolism.
- Pain modulation: Involved in reducing pain perception.
- Memory and learning: Can affect short-term memory and contribute to the formation of new memories.
- Mood regulation: Linked to mood and emotional regulation. They are thought to influence anxiety, depression, and stress responses.
- Motor control: CB1 receptors are found in areas of the brain responsible for motor coordination, so they help in controlling movement and muscle function.

CB2 Receptors are Target
- Immune system modulation: CB2 receptors are found on immune cells such as T-cells, B-cells, macrophages, and dendritic cells. When activated, they can help regulate immune responses, potentially reducing inflammation and immune system activation. This can be helpful in conditions involving chronic inflammation or autoimmune diseases.
- Anti-inflammatory effects: CB2 receptor activation has been shown to play a role in reducing inflammation. This is one reason why cannabinoids (like CBD) have been researched for their potential to treat conditions like arthritis, Crohn’s disease, and other inflammatory disorders.
- Pain management: By reducing inflammation, CB2 receptor activation can help alleviate pain, especially chronic or inflammatory pain. Neuroprotection: Research suggests that CB2 activation might have neuroprotective effects, meaning it could help protect neurons from damage due to conditions like neurodegenerative diseases (e.g., Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease).
- Bone health: CB2 receptors are present in bone tissue, and their activation is involved in the regulation of bone formation and resorption. Some research suggests that CB2 receptors may help in conditions like osteoporosis or fractures.
- Potential role in cancer: There is emerging evidence that CB2 receptors might play a role in cancer potentially slow the growth of tumors by reducing inflammation and immune system activation.
CBD containing products
- Topical CBD: Bioavailability is generally considered low (Less than 10% absorbed). The skin acts as a barrier, limiting the amount of CBD that can penetrate deeply enough to enter the bloodstream. Only a small fraction of the CBD will pass through the skin, and even less will make it into the bloodstream. It may be effective for localized issues like inflammation, pain, or skin conditions, but it doesn’t generally provide the systemic effects (like mood enhancement or anxiety reduction).

- Inhaled CBD (ex:Vaping): Bioavailability is higher as this avoids metabolism by the liver. However, duration of effect is fairly short.
- Oral CBD (Ex: oils, capsule or edibles):Bioavailability is low to moderate, typically ranging from 6%-20%. This is because when you ingest CBD it goes to the liver where a significant portion of it is broken down (metabolized) before it can have any effect on the target tissues. It also has relatively poor water solubility, so it doesn’t absorb easily into the body.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cost of PICO IV CBD?
- The cost of your treatment will depend on the dose delivered. The typical starting dose of 4 ml (26.4mg) is $225.
- Each additional 1ml is +$25, so an 8 ml (52.8mg) dose would be $325.
How do you determine what dose will be needed?
- It is impossible to know in advance what dose will be required for an individual. We cannot measure your sensitivity to the effects of CBD, nor the level of inflammation or endocannabinoid deficiency you may have exisiting in your body.
- The recommended starting dose is 4 to 8 ml (26.4 to 52.8mg). Most individuals will do well on a dose under 100 mg.
How long will the beneficial effects last?
- This cannot be predicted for any one individual, and also may be dose dependent. Some will experience benefit for 1 to 2 weeks whereas others may achieve 5 or more weeks of improvement.

- Pregnant or breastfeeding women
- Persons with a tendency to be hypotensive (chronic low blood pressure) may be at increased risk of lightheadedness.

Are there any Post-Procedure Restrictions?
- Until you know how you respond to treatment, it is best to avoid high risk activities such as operating heavy machinery. Infrequently, some patients will experience drowsiness or a sense of euphoria, which could lead to temporary impairment. Be sure to hydrate very well post infusion and avoid sedatives, including alcohol, for 12 hours.
Are there Clinical Studies Supporting the use of CBD?
- Yes, there are hundreds of studies which have looked at the safety and benefits of CBD for a broad range of symptoms and medical conditions.
